At Seagrave VPS we value the importance of being outside and active! We use the Get Set 4 Education PE scheme with additional resources from Youth Sport Trust: My Personal best. Our high-quality physical education curriculum inspires all pupils to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physically-demanding activities. It provides opportunities for pupils to become physically confident in a way which supports their health and fitness. Opportunities to compete in sport and other activities build character and help to embed values such as fairness and respect.
Through our PE curriculum we aim for pupils to:
- Attain optimum physical and emotional development and good health.
- Inspire all children to succeed in physical education and in developing life skills
- Teach children skills to keep them safe, such as being able to swim.
- Learn how to cooperate and collaborate with others as a part of an effective team, understanding fairness and equity of play to embed life-long values.
Our curriculum is designed to develop pupils’ physical, psychological, social and emotional wellbeing. It focuses on competence and confidence, encouraging active participation across a diverse range of sports and physical activities.
Swimming and water safety
All schools must provide swimming instruction either in key stage 1 or key stage 2.
At our school children in Year 5/6 swim in Summer.
Pupils are taught to:
– swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres
– use a range of strokes effectively [for example, front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke]
– perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations.
