Parent Information & Signposting

At Seagrave Village Primary School we are committed to promoting health and wellbeing.  Our children are encouraged to take part in a wide range of activities and experiences across and beyond the curriculum, learning to respond positively to challenges, handling risk and developing self-confidence and physical capabilities. This is essential to them contributing fully to the life of our school and to the wider communities they belong to. We believe this will better support the children to transfer successfully to secondary education and develop as confident individuals.

Promoting Healthy Eating

We encourage pupils to:

Have a healthy breakfast – we provide a bagel breakfast to every child, everyday (8.45-8.55)

Enjoy healthy snacks – we provide free fruit (and vegetables) for Foundation and Key Stage 1 and encourage Key Stage 2 children to bring in a healthy snack – fruit or vegetables from home to eat at morning breaktime.

Balanced lunch boxes and hot school dinners – we provide hot school meals which have been carefully designed by our catering service.  We encourage a healthy lunch box with just a small treat.

We operate a ‘nut-free’ policy.

Keeping hydrated – we encourage children to have a water bottle and drink plenty of fluids throughout the day, they can top them up from our water cooler.

Milk – Milk is available every day (http://www.coolmilk.com/) free of charge for 4 year olds, until the term they are 5.  Milk can be ordered at a small cost for children aged 5 and above.

Promoting exercise

All children have 2 PE lessons a week,

Active play at breaktimes,

Organised physical activity at lunchtimes

After school clubs including multi-sports, netball and football.

Children (and their parents) are encouraged to walk or ‘scoot’ to school.

Promoting Emotional Wellbeing

The children are encouraged to talk to adults in school if they are concerned or worried about something.  All staff prioritise the emotional care of the children and are avalible throughout the day.

We are fortunate to have two qualified ELSAs in school everyday, this enables us to focus support and identify children that need some additional time.

We also have access to play therapy allowing children to express themselves in a safe and secure environment – parental permission would be sought to take advantage of this offer.

Every classroom has a worry monster.  The children can write their worries and wobbles and post them to the worry monster.  The classroom staff monitor the worries and will then talk to the child.  There is also a worry box in the library if the children want to speak to somebody that is not in their classroom – like Mrs Litchfield 🙂

Mindfulness

We start each day with a short mindfulness activity to give everybody time to settle, emotionally regulate and self reflect.  Parents can access mindfulness activities here – Learnful Schools with Jo Bradley

Forest School

All our children will access Forest School for a 6 week block each year.  These sessions promote physical activity, emotional wellbeing, resilience, team work and social skills.  We really see the children flourish during these sessions.
